What Are Lessons Like?
I meet your student at their level! If they are a brand-new beginner - we start with the basics. If they've had a few years of lessons, we'll keep building their skills and improving their musicality. If they are fairly advanced, I will give them pieces that challenge them and show them new ways to approach their practice.
Practicing is crucial to a student's progress - which is why I like to reward it. I love to do fun "practice challenges" where students earn prizes for their practice. This especially helps the beginning students get into a good habit of practicing while they're young.

Performing is one of my favorite parts of music. I like to help my students learn to love it too. I offer frequent performance opportunities throughout the year. These include "piano parties" for the younger students, coffee shop performances for the older students, Christmas and spring recitals, and additional opportunities for festivals and competitions through the local chapter of MTNA (Music Teacher National Association).

Understanding how songs are created makes it easier to learn AND gives you tools to start writing and arranging your own music. I emphasize learning music theory and make it part of every lesson. I use theory books that I created to teach them basics like scales, chords, and chord progressions. We use these to dissect pieces they learn so they can understand how they're written, and also for fun arranging and composition projects.
