Group Jazz Piano Lessons are a fun way to learn the fundamentals of
jazz harmony and improvisation with your friends!
We practice:
- Jazz harmony: Including seventh chords, chord progressions, and chord alterations
- Reading lead sheets: Instead of relying on music where all the notes are written out for you, you'll be able to see the chord changes on a page and finally know what to play!
- Improvising: We start by improvising over simple chord progressions and work up to improvising over familiar jazz tunes
- Playing with other musicians: We practice taking turns improvising in class, listening to our fellow classmates, and learning to respond musically to other people's playing
- Jamming with a rhythm section: Once a month, a drummer and bass player will join the class and we will practice what it's like to play with a rhythm section
